“INSTEAD OF THINKING”
Instead of thinking, simply observe.
Not criticize others (including “I”-self), society, or world, or to demand that people conform to how the “I” think they should be; but above all, be aware of every single inner movement of oneself at the present moment.
Instead of judging what is good or bad, or what was wrong, or making comparisons, silently dive deeper into oneself and investigate its roots—“What would be in the depths of it?”—with the pure curiosity and wonder of a child.
Right now,
What emotions are welling up?
What thoughts are you being drawn into and consumed by?
At what moments, and in which parts of body, do you feel tension or a sense of release?
There is no need to label these things as “bad” or to blame the “I”-self for them—nor is there any need for the opposite reaction.
Even if encountering such reactions, simply be aware of them.
And from that inner awareness, patiently—yet without rushing to a conclusion—continue to explore deeper into the depths of being.
Or, simply witness as these things merely arise and fade away, as pure awareness.
Continue to do it until the moment—effortlessly—when all separation and division between others (the world) and “I”-self (me) dissolves completely, and moreover, practice abiding as awareness.
Or the other way around, realize that whenever there is a separation or division in perception—like “them” and “me” or “us,” or the world and “me” or “us”—it stems from stubborn assumptions, beliefs, unsublimated (unaccepted) pain, or attachments, as identified with the “I.” That is simply confusion of awareness and so these are entirely unnecessary for pure presence.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
Realize that it is the mind—the “I,” thought, the ego—that is eager to find an immediate answer.
Realize, too, that the unconsious tendency to apply spiritual wisdom merely intellectual or conceptual knowledge—or regard it as something one “possesses”—does not arise from “pure presence, but it arises from the mind (the “I,” thought, the ego). Because the mind mistakenly perceives existence as inadequate, it desperately strives to become “someone.”
Realize that the impulse to change the world or people—including oneself—driven by the notion that “the world, the “I”, or we ought to change,” is merely from confusion of existence as identification with the mind (the “I,” thought, the ego).
Realize, too, that clinging to certain experiences as “mine”—such as mystical ones—is also just the activity of the mind (the “I,” thought, the ego).
There are no thoughts that must be controlled.
There are no emotions that must be suppressed.
There are no experiences that need to be eliminated, nor any to be boasted about.
There is no “self” that needs to become someone, nor any goal that needs to be achieved.
All these movements are merely fleeting phenomena that appear and vanish within the consciousness that awareness perceives them.
They neither define nor represent the pure presence.
In fact, realize that the confusion regarding the nature of existence lies precisely in mistaking these things for reality as “mine.”
However, awareness will be able to find patterns within them.
Awareness will likely discover deeply ingrained assumptions there—beliefs you as the “I” had overlooked simply because they were so familiar.
Whenever that happens, liberate awareness from that invisible, unconscious prison without effort or intention by seeing through to the root of each one as it arises.
And what matters most is to embrace the truth that becoming aware right now is “everything.”
It is neither more nor less than that.
That is the entirety of this perfect moment—the “now.”
In this very moment, there is absolutely no need for anything more, nor any need for anything less.
Because however the “self”—the “I” you believe yourself to be—struggles, held captive by the illusion that something is missing from “me,” “us,” or “the world”; but “awareness” itself lacks absolutely nothing and there isn’t even a single moment like that.
And that Awareness, which exists prior to all thought, is nothing other than pure Presence as the impersonal true essence. (OM 🙏)
