“AS INSIGHT DEEPENS”
As keep attention turned inward and deepen self-observation and self-inquiry through the clarity of profound inner stillness, awareness increasingly gains simple insights that remain uninfluenced by any judgments, knowledge, or interpretations.
As awareness deepens these direct and immediate insights, the “I” that needs defending and the preconceived notions of “how things ought to be”—whether regarding people or the world—inevitably diminish.
Concurrently, responsibilities that once felt vague or even overwhelming become clear; at the same time, life transforms into something lighter and more abundant, expanding with the breadth of unknown possibilities.
Awareness ceases to fear the negative, uncomfortable emotions that arise in response to various phenomena, nor does it try to avoid such encounters or desperately control the external world to prevent them. Awareness also comes to no longer fear of comparisons, judgments, and criticisms—whether within the mind (self-hypnosis) or from others.
As awareness steps away from the identification with narrative of the “I,” it naturally no longer feels the need for the various labels and roles once used to supplement a “I” that always felt incomplete.
Life becomes simply what it is. Whether “I” might label an event a tragedy, a comedy, or a cause for celebration, awareness fully experiences the accompanying emotions without ever attaching labels like “good” or “bad,” and without being swayed by the differences in their contents.
Awareness will surrender the obsession with identifying a single cause for events deemed “negative” as well. Consequently, awareness ceases resisting raw reality—no longer condemning or trying to eliminate the people or systems the “I” once blamed as the causes of such events, recognizing instead that the world and reality are simply unfolding as they naturally must.
Life becomes like a flowing river; surrendering to that flow, awareness even comes to feel gratitude for the various opportunities—each one unique—that the “I” had never noticed before. Awareness feels the sunlight and the breeze brushing against cheek. Awareness begins to perceive the same Pure Presence even in the simple existence of the weeds growing at feet.
Awareness, where no division or rift exists between the observer and the observed, senses that, while people are buffeted by various experiences during identifying with the narrative of “I”—deep down, they are purely savoring those experiences as the unchanging “SELF,” or awareness, behind the “I.”
Furthermore, regardless of the nature of those experiences, awareness does not fall into the arrogance of making unilateral judgments—labeling things as “bad,” “wrong,” or “better off not existing,” or attempting to eliminate or correct them. Awareness does not require the presumption of comparing the incomparable or dogmatic and self-righteous drawing conclusions, as if it knew more or saw more than they do.
In this way, while feeling awe at the magnificence of what is, the conviction of being a small “I” as a human buffeted by these events—that false-self-perception, identification with the thought of “I”—gradually fades away.
Yet, awareness does not fall into the delusion of being someone superior to anyone.
There is no need for awareness to become someone, nor is there any need to strive not to become someone.
Simply being as it is.
It means living in the “here and now”—not trapped in the unconscious fantasy that as if it is a life by becoming immersed in and attached to thoughts and emotions as mine and as true that merely arise and vanish.
Life where the Pure Presence simply savors the raw reality—frees from assumptions and beliefs, with no “I” to defend, and as nobody—is so exquisitely beautiful, full of abundant possibilities, and self-luminous. (OM 🙏)
