“SUBTRACTION: THE PATH TO TRUTH”
Enlightenment, or the realization of truth, comes not through addition by the mind, but through subtraction of illusion such as the self of “I”.
Subtraction involves, by seeing through barrenness and the fact that they are in fact merely illusions, such as interpretations, or projections with the clarity of innermost stillness, letting go of previous ways of doing things, ways of being, preconceptions, beliefs, self-images, attachments to memories of the past, values, knowledge, or experiences, etc., one by one.
Through this subtraction, ever-deepening clarity and invisible veils are lifted, a truth that is merely hidden by identification or attachment of illusion, but never leaves or be lost, is able to be revealed.

Meanwhile, because the mind (ego) is unconsciously believing that there is “not enough,” therefore, it falsely disguises itself as if knowing the truth by collecting the words of sages as knowledge and clinging to their interpretations.
However, awareness in fact watches over all of these reactions without saying a word or criticizing them at all.
It is quietly waiting for the moment when all of the efforts and attempts made by the mind (ego) will eventually run out of steam in the face of the fact of their futility.
Yet, no matter how much secondhand knowledge or experience the mind (ego) gains, it is basically and deeply rooted convinced that it is inadequate, and so it will desperately resist letting go of its beliefs or way of being, as if it were being asked to abandon its reason for existence.
For this reason, doing everything what the mind (ego) thinks needing to the end is an extremely effective way of embracing the fact humbly that efforts or controls are futility finally (raising the white flag, giving up on efforts, surrendering).
In fact, this is a much more effective way of opening the path to subtraction than doing nothing at all.
In this way, because even any addition will be inevitably eventually led to the realization that it is ineffective, and the moment when this desperate, reckless resistance subsides, it becomes an opportunity for awareness to effortlessly, naturally, and detaching from the mind (ego) to be able to peer deep within oneself.

Children cannot understand things or let go of their attachments just through verbal explanations, and the same is true for adults.
To comprehend the essence of things, one needs to come an awareness or to convince through experience.
Enlightenment is the direct grasp of truth by the open heart through awareness, without any thoughts or experiences. Therefore, for the necessary subtraction (surrender) to naturally occur, the most natural and effective path is, in fact, to follow a similar process with pure humbleness to that walked by children to comprehend the essence of things.
