“THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING MISTAKES”
Spiritual awakening does not occur in those who acquire or increase their knowledge.
Similarly, spiritual awakening does not occur in those who are attached to spiritual doings, take pride in them, or feel ashamed of their inability to do them well.
This is because those who acquire or increase knowledge, those who are attached to spiritual doings, take pride in them, or feel ashamed of them are the mind (ego), which is an illusion misidentified as the “self.”
No wisdom is born there.
Conversely, those who surrender such knowledge, let go of attachment to doings, become aware that they can never know themselves through knowledge or doings, or become aware that its subject is the mind (ego) and turn their attention inward—those who observe themselves sincerely, humbly (selflessly, egolessly), without any judgment, a true seeker—will sooner or later find the Self (God).
Finding the Self is when you “become aware” that others do not exist anywhere, and that everything is oneself—that is, that the Self is completely transcended duality, and that there is no separation at all.
There is no duality whatsoever in absolute reality.
This “awareness” cannot be born through any knowledge or spiritual doings.
But this is precisely why, through our experiences, we constantly create opportunities by ourselves to become aware of our own mistakes (in this case, in gaining knowledge or being attached to doings). Only then can we come closer to the truth.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
If we assume that we never make mistakes, how on earth can we ever be aware of our own “mistakes”?
Those who want to believe they are infallible can easily find and criticize others’ mistakes by believing that they, their mind (ego), correctly understand some book or some sage’s words.
But if we can know The Self (God) through this correct knowledge, then why doesn’t this correct knowledge spread throughout the world as the only correct knowledge?
Also, by what standards can someone who claims to know correctness judge others as incorrect or wrong?
For example, to what extent do people who know correctness understand the circumstances that led a person to react in (that temporary) way?
Have we ever been facing with how much conflict, war, and death has been caused throughout human history by self-righteousness and dogmatism, such as the belief that if we could attack “mistakes” and eliminate it from the world, only “correctness” would remain, and how this has been justified?
Furthermore, how can we deal with the fact that no matter how much “mistake” we eliminate, relative “negativeness” as “mistake” will never vanish from duality?
Furthermore, no matter how many “mistakes” it seems we have eliminated, as long as our consciousness remains trapped in duality, we will always find some other latent “mistakes,” which is just unmanifested.
Or, even if one person thinks there’s no “mistake,” someone else will definitely find something wrong.
It never ends.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
So, if we only focus our attention outward and never become aware of our own “mistakes,” how and who could we ever question our own way of being?
And if we never question our own way of being, how could we ever turn inward?
When only through that innermost stillness we can encounter the Self (God), how can it be possible?
In fact, The Self can only be encountered by completely transcending the small framework of the mind (ego) as duality.
࿓࿓࿓࿓
However.
For those of us who misidentify the minds (egos) with the selves, it can be extremely frightening to be told that surrendering the minds (egos) and letting go of all of the mind’s (ego’s) beliefs, effort, and illusions of control is essential to spiritual awakening.
Letting go of the efforts of the mind (ego) that believes itself to be who we are can seem to suggest that the doings of the mind (ego) are meaningless; furthermore, surrendering the mind (ego) itself can feel like asking for the annihilation of our very existence.
And so, failing to grasp the true meaning of the words of the sage, we almost always fall into various traps (i.e., “mistakes”) of self-deception by the mind (ego) more than once, such as becoming attached to the acquisition of knowledge or spiritual doings, and we also often not even knowing where and what to start.
However, what we should remember here is that it is often counterproductive to do the sage says, in a way of your mind (ego) understanding.
This is because to truly comprehend what the sage’s words mean, we need a spiritual awakening at least on the same level as the sage.
In other words, the sage’s words, which has directly grasped God, are a verbalization of non-duality, and the mind (ego) trapped in duality cannot possibly understand a world beyond that duality.
In short, the mind (ego) can never correctly understand the sage’s words.
For this very reason, until we get to that point, we need to firmly grasp the fact that no one is immune to the influence of the mind’s (ego’s) interpretations and distortions, and we need self-awareness enough to always be vigilant.
And so… what will become of us?
In fact, we cannot comprehend the true meaning of the sage’s words through knowledge or doings alone, and when we still find it difficult to be vigilant at all times, then, therefore, even though we think we are doing the right thing, we will be actually doing various “mistakes.”
Until reaching awareness, which is essential for one’s spiritual awakening.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
In fact, we only have the experiences necessary for self-awareness, enlightenment—directly grasping the Self (God).
To that end, we are always all in the places we’re meant to be and meeting the people we’re meant to meet.
There is, in fact, no “mistake” there.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
It’s important to continually observe yourself, your words and actions, and inquire their origins. And at the same time, be at peace with your current self. If you have any fears, such as surrendering the mind (ego) or its efforts, inquire the roots of those fears, or before that, become aware of each and every thoughts and emotions of yourself, as tendency of your mind (ego), such as recreating the same story from the past. In short, always cherish the present moment.
Awareness, or enlightenment can always only happen in the present.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
The non-dual Self never acquires knowledge or performs spiritual doings.
Instead, it is impersonal consciousness, the Self that becomes aware of the mind (ego) that acquires knowledge or attaches itself to spiritual doings, and its doership.
And it is the very Self that becomes aware of wisdom or various awareness, and it is the immutable, immortal, absolute reality. (OM 🙏)
