“When one cannot acknowledge the pain of past (facts).”

“WHEN ONE CANNOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PAIN OF PAST (FACTS).”

By unconsciously projecting the past into the “present,” we feel the pain of the past in the “present,” and thereby, instead of responding to it, we unknowingly come to react in various ways to people and events.

Its substance is the same even if we try not to react to anything by our manifest mind (the efforts of the mind, ego).

This is why it is said that “the past does not exist” in the world of psychology within relative duality as well, just like in the truth of non-duality.

The past is not yet sublimated, and keeps to appear in the “now” as if swallowing the present.

Moreover, if we have not been learning functional ways as a human being to deal with such wounds, which had strong impact so much that we could hardly accept it, mentally, psychologically, physically, in the environment in which we grew up (such as the era, the community, the family,) the dysfunction in our relationship with ourselves will keep unless we realize its fact and humbly start learning from the basic how to do so.

Naturally, this dysfunction in our relationship with ourselves will also manifest as dysfunction in our relationships with others.

This is because each one of us cannot build a relationship with others, except only in the same way that we relate to ourselves.

And furthermore, due to without a connection to the innermost stillness that is essential to facing these facts, when we are feeling insecure and incomplete about ourselves, or feeling immeasurable anxiety by losing sight of connection with the immortal and immutable Self (the unknown, God as an absolute reality, not the concept. “God” is never an intellectual concept), and when we don’t even realize such facts of ourselves, we will inevitaly, end up, turn away from such pain by some way, such as by acquiring a lot of knowlege, status, qualifications, money, or by trying to become a worldly virtuous person, or by trying to built a romantic relationship with others, which projecting the illusion that one can become perfect through conceptual love (attachment), or we will be deluded into thinking that this is natural (self (ego) deception), or we will come to believe that we have become someone (distortion of facts by the mind, ego).

In this way, the unconscious projection of the past gives birth to various unconscious desires of the mind (ego), and until we become aware of ourselves in that state, we will live out various dramas that continue from the past.

Looking at this from another angle, although the mind (ego) is not at all aware of it, we subconsciously seek and wander in search of “something” necessary to somehow accept and sublimate the pain that continues to ache since the past without being sublimated. And until we obtain it, through strengthening attachment and identification with the mind (ego) as the “personal self,” we will inevitably eventually move toward a dead end, that is, complete surrendering the mind (ego).

The period just before surrendering the mind (ego) is certainly the stage where “surrender of the mind (ego)” is the most difficult for anyone, but at the same time, spiritual awakening has unavoidable mechanism in which we cannot ascend the spiral staircase to enlightenment without going through each of the necessary stages. And as a matter of fact, as a paradoxical truth, carefully going through each of these stages of now is the way of being as fundamental existence of the universe, The Self, God, and is most pure joy.

࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓

“Surrender the mind (ego),” “be humble,” “open your heart,” etc. are all just the same meanig, it merely means “let go of the mind (ego, thoughts, judgments) totally and completely (that is, surrendering all illusion), and return to and remain the pure essence.”

When we lose all desires, hopes, predictions, and even the awareness of our “personal self,” the door to profundity quietly opens before us.

At the end of that path, if we purely comprehend “who we truly are” (become enlightened), none of us will need to explain to others such as what we know about spirituality, or how much we understand God, and we will no longer need to seek to be understood for who we are or our motivations, nor will we need to persuade others or try to change the world.

This is because the impersonal heart directly grasps the truth completely, without any room for doubt or hesitation that all beings are the “personal self” and at the same time The Self, God itself, that is, the truth of “non-duality” as “there is no separation anywhere,” the Creator is completely one with the created.

There are no longer any individuals or groups there that do, or think that it has to do anything to change outside world.

There is only the calm and peace as “now”.

࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓

Conversely, if something “personal” is attached to self-inquiry or self-observation that is beyond time and space, or even to “enlightenment”, then this is just the mind (ego) thinking that it is doing something spiritual, but in fact, self-inquiry, self-observation, or “enlightenment” the mind wants to believe are nothing more than illusions that are merely fitting into known concepts.

࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓

By the way, sage says “don’t react to the outside” not only because it is an illusion, but also because it is essential for each spiritual awakening to realize that we are reacting to something, inquiry the root of it, and actually find that there is nothing there.

Therefore, it does not simply ask us as the mind of doership to refrain from wrong actions by alternaitve judgement such as “right or wrong”, instead, actually it gives us an opportunity to inquire the self why we react, for getting closer to the truth, or realize it, through that spiritual teaching.
