“GETTING IN THE ZONE”

Have you ever had the experience of “getting in the zone” before?

“Getting in the zone” is a state of heightened concentration where you are no longer bothered by the sounds and scenery around you, where even the flow of time stops, and yet your senses are sharpened and you can accurately grasp things and situations.

This is a state that is extremely close to Oneness, to the transcendence of duality, and it can be said that you are in innermost stillness.

This stillness is so quiet that not only the sounds around you, but also any thoughts of the mind (ego) cannot reach you, and it is a space that is surrendered the mind (ego) without any intention or effort, and it is a place of inner “emptiness,” “void,” where the “personal self” does not exist and where the essence inherently belongs.

It is a place where even time and space no longer exist, and it is the closest place to omnipresent consciousness, the Absolute Reality, at the eternal of “now.”

The deepening of spiritual awakening is not like something the mind (ego) may dream of, but like ascending an endless spiral staircase. The higher one ascends as surrendering the mind (ego), not only can one see a broader overall picture of things, but one can also see the profoundness of things in greater detail.

On the flip side, the less one ascends the steps of staircase, the more one tends to think that one can see things, but in fact, what one sees is only superficial and shallow, and the same low possibility eventually remains to utilize the inherent function of seeing the essence of things.

What’s more, what’s paradoxical and interesting is that whereas the mind (ego) can never know where one is on the spiral staircase even if how hard the mind (ego) tries to know, the deeper spiritual awakening becomes, the more the mind (ego) that values such things is surrendered, so even if one can understand what the view at the lower step of the spiral staircase looks like, in the end, none of us will come to know where we are on the spiral staircase.

࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓

In the first place, in order to become able to see the true nature of things, anyone needs patience with themselves, and the courage and determination, by being completely present in the present moment, to face the pain from the past wounds that suddenly invades into the present and to acknowledge and accept each and every fact one by one.

Through such experiences, we can deepen our comprehension of how the influence of the past can be appeared in the “present”, as well as the various circumstances that can be inferred and lie behind things that appear on the surface, and moreover, we can also come to realize the fact that there is even the incalculable number of possibilities of circumstances that are beyond our imagination and understanding.

Conversely, in the first place, how can a person who has not ever had unconditional self-acceptance or patience with themselves without the efforts or intention of the mind (ego), accept others unconditionally or be patient with them?

Even if we can do this by efforts to control the mind (ego) under manifest mind as a so-called “good person,” how can we while in the unconscious, which makes up more than 90%, do it?

In this way, one cannot realize this blind overconfidence in its own mind (ego) and ignorance of the unconsciousness, due to unrecognized fear.

In fact, the mind (ego) cannot understand, let alone touch, “ultimate love (truth)”, which is even far beyond imagination of the mind (ego), and yet, from its blind self-recognition, it often criticizes a sage who ascends far up the spiral staircase, as if it is the only one who knows what “love (truth)” is.

For example, a sage, who realized the Self, ultimate love, does not arbitrarily judge or egotistically remove the hardships that individuals face, but rather recognizes that each individual is at an important stage of spiritual awakening and chooses to let each individual alone to find preciousness of “now” by themselves out of trust in the essence that far beyond the mind (ego). However, the mind (ego) sees this phenomenon in a one-sided way and says things like, “Many people say that person is sage, but in reality that one is indifferent to people and has no love whatsoever.”

The mind’s (ego’s) stubborn attachment to the idea of “this is what love is,” attachment to correctness, projections or interpretations from the unhealed past, or even the mind’s (ego’s) way of seeing everything as personal that unknowingly works as biases, deceiving oneself, and unconsciously distort the truth. Furthermore, the person is not aware of the fact that such attachments are actually an unconscious resistance (a reaction from fear) to self-recognition of the mind (ego), such as incompleteness or inadequacy, and are even born out of a bottomless fear of realizing such facts.

And so, for the mind (ego), the problem always seems to be outside as unavoidable.

How nonsensical is this?

Not only is this nonsensical, but the fact is that such critical reactions further strengthen the mind (ego) and move us further away from spiritual awakening.

This is why it is said, “Do not criticize the sage.”

However, even through that experience, whenever one can become aware of oneself of “now” by being in the present, of course, one will be able to deepen spiritual awakening.

That is why a sage will never take the foolishness of anyone personally, instead, will accept it as it is, and even give them a task that will be inevitably able to be in inner stillness where they can recognize foolishness of the mind (ego) by themselves.

That can be how deep the love of a sage who has directly grasped ultimate love (truth) becomes.

If there is something that you can immerse yourself in so much that you can “get in the zone” apart from meditation, cherish that time.

In that moment, you will have no connection with the mind (ego) itself or its desires, whether good or evil.

Or, even if you can’t even imagine what it means to “get in the zone,” or even if you are unconsciously addicted on romantic relationships or various things to avoid facing your own pain, or even if you are at any other stage of spiritual awakening, cherish every moment of the present from the bottom of your heart.

This kind of humble and sincere state of being is always the great possibility for finding the key to opening the door for ascending the next step of spiral staircase. (OM 🙏)
