“NOT A DESIRE OR WISH, BUT A LONGING.”
“Desire or wish” always has a definite image of the future that we hope to materialize. Naturally, it includes even fantasies that are impossible to achieve, and yet it is an expectation of “someday,” that is not “now.” And it is always the mind (ego) that is dissatisfied with itself (the illusory self, or the environment in which it is, etc.) that seeks for it.
This represents that there is always some kind of “fear” at the root of such “desire or wish.”
On the other hand, “longing” is a pure source of energy that is directed toward the very thing we long for, so much so that we devote ourselves to it with all the heart, even without any effort. Moreover, this “longing” is also accompanied by genuine curiosity. There is no preceding image in it. There is only “now.”
In fact, everyone has this “longing.”
This is because this “longing” is the voice from the heart that calls us to connect with the essence (i.e., to return to God), far beyond our physical, psychological, or mental awareness of “personal I.”
There is something unknown within us all, this “Higher Self,” as we call it, on a completely different level than the mind (ego). And the more we establish this connection, the more certain and undoubted our journey of spiritual awakening will become, even if there is no guarantees from anyone.
In fact, we will even realize that there is nothing else to have faith in.
And in fact, this is precisely what Jesus meant, when he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
Many people who seek spiritual awakening are actually acting on an unacknowledged “desire or wish,” rather than a “longing” for it. Furthermore, they are unable to even look at their motivations for it because of “fear.”
Naturally, this prevents them from “going deep within themselves,” which is essential for spiritual awakening.
The first thing we should do in such a situation is to calm down.
Become quiet inside. Completely.
Take a step away from any emotions entirely, such as impatience or worry.
And also put aside all of desires and wishes for the time being.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
Everything that the mind (ego) sees, holds, feels, etc., is temporary, that is, impermanent.
Nothing lasts.
Even all the attachments, such as what we commonly call “love,” also appear and disappear without fail.
In the face of this fact, this truth, what is the reason we still cling to such impermanence?
Ultimately, behind all the desires and wishes is the fear of “ceasing to exist,” that is, “death,” and the fear of losing meaning to existence.
What this represents is that separation and isolation are foundation of self-awareness.
However, we, the mind (ego), are actually more afraid than anything else to face our own fears, because there is always a painful wound there. Thus, we can unknowingly keep to be manipulated by the memory of it.
And yet, deep down inside, we are actually ashamed of ourselves as well for being like that…
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
The “fear” held by the mind (ego) is very natural, whatever it is. Furthermore, all reactions out of self-awareness of separation or isolation of the mind (ego) are understandable without doubt to The Self, the essence.
So, paradoxcally, if we can detach ourselves from that illusion, that is, the mind (ego), even just a little bit, and see the essence of things for what they really are, spiritual awakening for anyone become inevitable and can come to deepen.
That is why it is said that we all need to first become quiet, completely detached ourselves from thoughts or desires and wishes of the mind (ego).
Once we find that complete stillness within and can stay in there, all guidance of Higher Self, even if we don’t recognize it as the Higher Self, will always be recognizable as certain to everyone, and the sense of reliableness and relief that comes from following that guidance will further liberate us from any impatience or worries of the mind (ego), and will definitely make us calm.
The same is true of longing. There is no need for us to recognize it as “it.”
All we have to do is, connect with the complete stillness within.
That’s all for anyone. (OM 🙏)
