“SELF-INQUIRY – DIALOGUE WITH THE MIND (EGO)”
Higher Self (H): OK. You say that, but is it true?
Mind (Ego) (M&E): Because that sage said so.
H: I see. Then why did they say so?
M&E: What? I don’t know…
H: OK. If you don’t know the basis for it, then why are you insisting on it?
M&E: Because everyone else says so too!
H: Who’s “everyone else”?
M&E: Everyone.
H: OK, so if everyone says so, then why doesn’t it work? It is necessary for us to create a beautiful ideal world, future, right? Then why don’t we all cooperate with that?
M&E: It’s because they’re all idiots! Because they are all idiots and selfish, and they don’t care about the world!
H: Oh, really? How do you know they don’t all care about it?
M&E: Well, obviously, neither this person nor that person care about it. I can usually tell by talking to them.
H: Really? Is it really true? What do you know from talking to them? How can you be so sure?
M&E: Well, people are all selfish creatures, aren’t they?
H: Hmmm. Then are you?
M&E: No, I am different. I always care about the world, about everyone else, and I try my best to live my life.
H: I see. Then how can you be so sure that others are not trying their best?
M&E: Well, it’s obvious that they’re not doing it!
H: Hmmm, you say it’s obvious that they are not… I see.
M&E: What the hell!
H: What are you mad about?
M&E: Because you made fun of me!
H: I’m not making fun of you. I just thought it was interesting because it is so strange, and I also thought there must be still something within you much deeper than what we realize now.
M&E: Bullshit!
H: Oh my. Why don’t you trust me?
M&E: Because you’re a liar!
H: What?
M&E: Because, because, you know, people think others are stupid when people talk like that!
H: So you think so. I see. Well, let’s back up a bit and look back at the human history.
You see, there are actually a lot of people who have said the same things as you are now and fought in the same way. But the world didn’t change. It is true that what you say now is right. But, does it mean that those who did not agree with you were wrong? It’s not like that. Look, look. Just as you have been so occupied with this that you haven’t been able to pay attention to other things, others have also been doing the best they can at the time, and they just couldn’t do more than that. And yet, they often blame themselves for not being able to do everything as you do. And they are trying even harder. Do you see? The world didn’t change because someone didn’t listen to you. Everyone is trying just as you do.
In this way, if you put aside all prejudices, for not only about people including yourself, but also for about the long human history, and purely look at each and every thing carefully, you will be able to see the truth, the essence of it all. How’s that? Isn’t it?
M&E: Ah. Ah…really… But…but..! But! Then what are we going to do? This world will always be miserable, and the worst! Everyone is suffering!
H: I see. We need to dig out more deeply at what that word “everyone” means and where “the world is miserable” comes from….
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
This is how the self-inquiry, the quest continues, but this is a simplified example, and in reality it often goes deeper into more details. Also, instead, it unfold as a verbal conversation in this way or it is given a clear answer from the Higher Self, but, for example, when we are promoted to reflect on the human history, or when we look back our own words and actions, there are no critical words against us and even compliments, nor are also we just thinking alone, but we non judgmentally observe everything closely the fact as they are, from thoughts, emotions, or physical reactions of people living through various events that have occurred in human history, to our own words and actions, through clear footages.
In this way, we finally become aware of the facts as they are.
At this time, we are far enough away from the mind (ego) that we can be completely nonjudgmental, away from the awareness of the “personal I” that is completely identified with the ego.
And the moment we are able to acknowledge various fact as a fact, the mind (ego) as an attachment associated with becomes completely unnecessary, and thereby the sense that it belongs to the self disappears.
That is the moment when the ego on that point is completely surrendered.
Even if the ego as a whole is not surrendered at that point, it is the moment when that part of the ego is definitely no longer “I” as The Self in our awareness.
In other words, at that moment, we are deepening our maturity as a person (not merely playing the role of a superficial adult, but as the genuine), that is, we are deepening spiritual awakening.
The more we repeat and deepen this quest, the more we will come to universal wisdom, and concurrently, the more we will move toward the complete surrender of the ego, as going through the peak of the suffering that the mind (ego) creates.
And so, eventually, we will reach ultimate enlightenment.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
However, these are never intentional, such as “Let’s self-inquiry,” “Let’s surrender,” or “Let’s become enlightened.”
We also need to leave away from clinging to the stories or delusions that the mind’s (ego’s) favorite for deception of itself, such as “I will be enlightened in an instant,” and from the deception of attachment to people and things, which only comes in the name of “love.”
If we sincerely and humbly face ourselves, we will realize that these are merely delusions and deceptions, and they are preventing the actual deepening of spiritual awakening, so we will naturally leave away from them. However, we must always remain fully alert to such the mind’s (ego’s) deceptions, which are done unconsciously.
For example, a very common deception by the mind (ego) is the pattern in which the mind (ego) believes that it understands the talking by a sage that the mind (ego) admires and saying “I see!” or “I knew it!” while unconsciously in fact, adding some kind of projection or interpretation to it. At that moment, the talking by the sage is no longer a truth that should be unknown to the mind (ego), and even the deception begins, as if it has just discovered it by itself.
Another very common decepation but difficult to realize is that after one actually comes into contact with some truth, then one thinks that one no longer needs to observe the mind (ego) or that there is no longer any spiritual challenges to work on, as if one has completed something spiritual, or that one no longer needs to deepen comprehension of the truth through practice, because one comes to enlightenment, and so on. Unfortunately, this is also a deception by the mind (ego).
In this way, by the deception of the mind (ego), we will actually remain not find it within, or even if we do find it, we will not deepen comprehension of the truth or actually live the truth, but only interpret it in the end, and the fact that we still remain identified with the mind (ego) as ever will keep to be shelved, and we can easily live the illusion as if we have come close to a sage.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
In the first place, the mind (ego) assumes that everyone alive today lives in the same world, but in fact, a sage who has realized the truth, lives with a total different consciousness that the rest of us cannot even imagine.
Therefore, for the sake of convenience, even though the sage speaks the truth through the same language of us, but in fact, the truth is so esoteric, profound that it cannot be fully explained linguistically, so in most cases, the meaning of words or actions of the sage is unfathomably profound to the mind (ego), and completely different from what the mind (ego) thinks it understands.
Therefore, the more the mind (ego) thinks, “I know this” or “I can understand this,” the more careful we should actually be.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
For us, before any deepening of spiritual awakening, there is always a moment when we ourselves realize some kind of commitment of our own mind (ego), and at that moment we are definitely in a state of complete detachment from the mind (ego).
Furthermore, without such awareness, no one can deepen spiritual awakening, much less surrender the mind (ego), which is nothing but an illusion as false-self and come to be enlightened.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
So, on the contrary, if we are making judgments such as “I am doing well” or “That’s not good” when we are observing ourselves, then it is completely by the mind (ego), and in that state, not only will we be unable to observe the facts as they are, but we will also unknowingly fall into the deception of interpretations that are convenient for the mind (ego).
In such cases, we must first become aware of the mind (ego) that is making such judgments.
Then, we will need to ask ourselves deep within, “What exactly is this ‘I,’ this existence that can become aware of this mind (ego)?,” “Who is observing?”
Make this point clear, then continue to deepen self-observation and self-inquiry.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
In this way, everything always happens as it should.
And it means that, at the same time, within us, the experiences necessary for spiritual awakening, for the shell of the ego to be completely destroyed and surrendered, always continue to be created.
So, for example, if our spiritual awakening has not yet deepened, that is, if spiritual wisdom we have gotten is still just knowledge, and no transformation has occurred in our lives or in ourselves, then this is also inevitable, and it means that it is a sign that our choices for deepening spiritual awakening until now were not in line with the essence, which is God.
However, that is not to say that it is bad, in fact, there is actually nothing mistake or failure anywhere within us ultimately in the truth of non-duality. Instead, it means that we are gaing a necessary experience for the next step.
When we can humbly and sincerely acknowledge these facts as mere facts, transformation will inevitably and naturally occur as it should.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
Ultimately, this is only possible to happen in the “present moment,” when we are observing or inquiring ourselves as we are in the innermost stillness.
And, of course, it is also always only the moment when we are in that innermost stillness that we can encounter the Divine Self, that is, we can reach ultimate enlightenment.
That is when we actually find the omnipresent God, inward.
It is when we humbly realize that the heaven has been always there, and that we have just been so blinded by the mind (ego), what we see with physical eyes, and ignorance of God at all.
This sudden awareness of The Self is incredibly pure, selfless and egoless entirely.
࿓࿓࿓࿓࿓
It cannot be otherwise. (OM 🙏)
