“THE HARSH REALITY”

Spiritual awakening sometimes requires confronting very harsh realities.

These harsh realities include, for instance, the death of a loved one, a grief so deep that it seems there is no more, anger and hatred toward the event or person who caused the death, and so on.

Then, if we are still identifying with the mind, ego, and body, and still in deep isolation by separation from the root, we will try to cope with the feelings that arise by considering the events and others that brought about that reality as ‘evil.’

However, it’s natural that we hold on to goodness or harbor anger and hatred toward evil, and justify ourselves because we ourselves are hurt, but it is also quite natural that, for instance, if it’s looked it from another perspective (from others perspective), what is good for us may be evil for them, that they may also hold on to goodness as well, and that they also justify themselves in the same way of ours.

Thus, the chain reaction of good and evil thoughts continues forever and ever in this dual world.

However, in spite of the fact that there has never been a true solution by that way to any of these problems in the history of humanity, those who still remain deeply lonely and spiritually disconnected will continue to live the contradiction of hating someone while loving someone else.

If one can truly see these facts as they really are, the true solution will naturally come into view, no matter who it is, but if one is to see things as they really are, it is essential for anyone to leave one’s mind and observe everything purely as the Consciousness itself, without any judgments.

This is why it is said that the harsh reality is actually providing us with the opportunity to face ourselves deeply. By detaching from our own mind, and observing reality as non-judgmental consciousness itself, we can further deepen our spiritual awakening.

And this is why it is said, “Every event is a pure gift,” as well.

No matter how harsh reality may be, it is not a punishment inflicted by some fault we have committed, nor is it, for instance, the suffering we must endure in this life due to karma from a previous life.

Paradoxically, the harsher the reality is for us, the more it hides something that will further deepen our spiritual awakening, and thus the more we face reality head-on, the more it will surely promote our spiritual awakening.

So when you are faced with a harsh reality, the important thing is not to try to pretend that the negative feelings are not there or to suppress them.

Don’t deny the fact that you are feeling that way.

The way we control our emotions not only does not allow anyone to be able to sublimate own negativity, but on the contrary, the suppressed emotions become a poison that eats away at our body and spirit from within.

Therefore, by feeling emotions as they are, we simply choose to let them sublimate like clouds that appear and disappear naturally.

In fact, no matter how intense the emotion, the emotion itself can never consume us. On the contrary, it is us who unknowingly undermine ourselves through our own resistance.

This is why it is said, “Let go of anger and hatred.”

But whatever you feel, whatever you do, it does not mean that you should stop doing something because it is wrong, or that you should not do it at all.

Rather, it means to need be aware of them totally.

In fact, resistance, escapism, and all other inner negative activity is essential for spiritual awakening.

For without knowing the negatives actually, none of us can truly comprehend the positives, and furthermore, if we don’t comprehend both of them, it comes impossible to actually transcend the dual world of positivity and negativity.

Furthermore, in other words, being able to ‘aware’ of our own behavior actually means that we are ready to go much deeper within, and it also means that our heart’s longing to deepen our own spiritual awakening from the innermost is coming closer to our manifest conscious.

Otherwise, no one can be aware of ‘something negative stirring within.’

From these points, once we are aware of it, we just need to leave from the emotional drama and observe things as they are.

In fact, the more we make this change of direction, the deeper our spiritual awakening will surely become. No matter how much we may be shaken before we reach a complete break with the ego, our spiritual awakening, once deepened, will never disappear.

This means, for instance, that even if we do not reach full spiritual awakening in this life, our deepened spiritual awakening will still not disappear.

In other words, it also means even if we work on spiritual awakening again in the next life, we will go through the same internal changes from one life to the next as we did in this life though, but we will be able to reach to the point of spiritual awakening that we have deepened in this life more quickly.

However, this is never to say that it is better to awaken earlier or that it will make the next life easier at all.

As a matter of fact, the moment we truly let go of our resistance to reality, we are also freeing ourselves from a part of the dual world, and each time we do so, our world becomes lighter and lighter, and we are steadily moving toward the original, judgment-free world of the non-dual world that is far beyond good and evil.
